The teenage years can be incredibly difficult for adolescents. Bullying, depression, cutting, and anxiety are words that I hear frequently in my office. Parents are feeling increasingly out of control because so much of a teenager's world is online through social media and parents have little control over this aspect of their teens' lives. And it's no big surprise that research is showing a correlation between teens' use of social media and bullying, anxiety and depression.

- About 25% of adolescents age 13-18 experience anxiety. This also includes PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and phobias.
- 1 Million students were harassed, threatened or were subjected to other forms of cyberbullying on Facebook during the last year.
- Each year, 1 in 5 females and 1 in 7 males engage in self-injury.
- Nearly 50% of individuals engaging in self-harm have been sexually abused.
- About 50% of those who engage in self-mutilation begin around age 14 and continue into their 20s.
